Raising Children: 3 Scriptural principles that absolutely work.

I’d like share 3 principles that we have used in raising our own children into young adults.
BUT FIRST though, please understand that:

  1. No one gives birth to angels and neither did we.
  2. No one gives birth to “bad, evil or dumb” kids
  3. They are all different and God will lead you specifically for them
  4. Let them thrive in their passion not your missed dreams

Today’s guiding scriptures

Proverbs 22:6 NIV
Judges 13:12-13 AMP
Jeremiah 29:11-13 NLT

Principle 1

Different versions of the Bible say it differently but I like the way the NIV  puts it:

Proverbs 22:6 NIV
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”

SHOW them the correct path, by your own activities, words and mannerisms. Don’t scream it to them or force them. They will follow. But when they start to grow, they may start to question or even rebel. But if you planted it well, they’ll not depart or go far from it.

Principle 2

Continually ask God how to deal or raise the child in every situation and also what the child’s calling is. The calling is the vocation, profession etc. Slowly but surely you’ll start to see their calling in life. Assist them and let them thrive. Don’t force them into majors at college that you want because they’re “marketable “

Judges 13:12-13 AMP

“And Manoah said, “Now when your words come true, what shall be the boy’s manner of life, and his vocation?” The Angel of the LORD said to Manoah, “The woman must pay attention to everything that I said to her.”

Principle 3

Jeremiah 29:11-13 NLT

Trust God, believe that He has a plan for them. In our home at the very entrance we have this scripture framed. We’ve had it there for 29 years at our door and have seen God’s faithfulness to His word in almost any version, its self explanatory

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”

Impact Prayer

Dear God, maker of heaven and earth and all therein.  You know all your creation including my child(ren). According to Jeremiah 29:11 you have a plan that is a good plan, a plan of success that gives us hope for the future. As a parent /guardian / caretaker I ask you to help me (us) in raising this child (children)  as you did for Manoah and Zorah in raising a great son, Samson. I declare also that regardless of any setbacks, this child (children) will not depart from your ways according to Proverbs 22:6.  In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
